Yesterday was Kori's 14th birthday. This B-day was one like no other. Kori had been waiting a long time for this one. Fourteen was the magic number when Dave and I decided we would allow her to get her belly button pierced. I told her we could go when she got home from school and we then planned on going out to dinner followed by ice cream cake and presents at Nonnie's. Kori loooooooooves ice cream cake!
School get's out at 2:10 and at 2:11 my phone rang. Guess who it was. "Can we go? Can we go? Can we go? Now?????" We only live about 2 blocks from her school and by 2:15 she was home. We got in the car, accompanied by friend Hayley and headed to Salem to the Purple Scorpion. Hayley already has a belly button piercing so there were lots of questions on the ride over. She was very nervous, and this is a girl who is terrified of needles. I wasn't sure what would happen. I pictured her lying on the table, with her acrylics digging into my arm while screaming her lungs out and I was going to document it all with my D300. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take pictures while they were doing the actual piercing. I tried pulling the "But I'm a professional" card but it didn't work. Luckily, there was no blood drawn from my arm, no cry out for help and things went very smoothly.
I did take photos before, after and during the rest of the evening. Kori ended up taking over my camera at Nonnie's house while Dave, Alex and I visited with uncle Mike. So the last pictures in this post are all hers.
Here is her pre-punctured navel. Good bye navel. We'll miss you. :(
No photos were allowed of the belly button right after either. We'll have to wait to see the finished product.
Now off to dinner!
and coloring...
The ice cream cake at Nonnie's!
One of Kori's fingernails went up in flames during the lighting of the cake. Please use caution when lighting anything while wearing acrylic nails!
and. . . the finished product!
And finally. . . here are Kori's masterpieces!
I love to hear your thoughts! What did you think of this post?
