Fun with Flash!

Last weekend I had the privilege of attending the Get it Off workshop hosted by James "The Fed" Federico and Doug Levy. It was all about off camera flash and lighting for use in wedding, portrait and commercial photography.

I usually try and use as much natural light as possible when shooting but there are times when the use of an off camera flash is needed and can create a sense of depth, drama and romance. Doug and James spent the morning talking tech and after lunch we got to use Doug as our model and try out all the different types of flash that we might want to use.

Winter is for Workshops!

I can’t tell you how much I really love attending workshops and
conferences. I caught the bug in the fall when I went to the Pictage
Partner Conference in L.A. I made some great new friends, listened to
some of the best photographers in the world and got some great ideas
for my business.

This weekend I’ll be attending Mystic 4 in Mystic, CT with lots of photographers from all over the country! There will be some amazing speakers there including Anne Ruthmann who is one of my heroes!  I’m super excited to go and learn new things. I think it’s so important to always remember that no matter how much you know, you can always learn something new. I also can’t wait to see all of my friends from the Boston Photographers Guild there too!

Next weekend I’ll be heading out to Sharon, MA for the Get if Off Workshop (it’s not what you think hosted by James Federico and Doug Levy. They will be talking about getting your FLASH off your camera and other ways to achieve some great lighting.

It’s so important to always keep things fresh and attend as many workshops and conferences as possible. Photography is always evolving and technology is always improving. I will always have my own style, but I love to gain new ideas and inspiration from others.
