Jackie & Ryan: A Harding Allen Estate Wedding

So, I know I have been lacking in the blog department lately but I am determined to catch up. I got one post done yesterday and with today's post that makes two in a row!

I absolutely loved Jackie and Ryan's wedding at the Harding Allen Estate. One of the main reasons was their story. They met at Wachusett Regional High School in 1999 were they dated and in Jackie's words... "Ryan was in LOVE with me hehehehe..." Then after years of separation they reunited and fell in love again. During their time apart Jackie had her son Aiden who was another reason why I thought this wedding was so special. It was a union of their family and you could really tell that it was special to everyone. Plus, she had some killer blue shoes!

Meet Brittany & Alex: An Amherst MA Engagement Shoot

I had so much fun shooting Brittany & Alex's engagement session! We met in my hometown of Amherst at Mt. Pollox which turned out to be the first of many locations, but this was by far one of my favorites. It was a consideration for my own wedding in 2007 just because it's so beautiful and I have a lot of great memories there. I love the woman in the mountains which you can see in the background of wide shot of the two of them. They will be getting married in May of 2012 in Northampton, MA.

Meet Laura & Will - An Elm Bank Engagement Shoot

Laura & Will are planning a garden-inspired reception for their wedding next May so when Laura asked for a shoot location that would compliment this theme, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society's Gardens at Elm Bank in Wellesley seemed like the perfect place! One thing I love about Elm Bank are all of the unique locations for photographs. We spent a perfect fall afternoon exploring the beautiful grounds, including a stop in Weezie's Children's Garden for a few shots on the giant Adirondack chair.

Margaret & Peter- A Boston Public Library Wedding

Margaret and Peter had a wedding that almost didn't happen. They were married on the day of hurricane Irene and thankfully they were safe and sound inside the beautiful and well protected Boston Public Library.

Margaret & Peter met at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2008. Margaret and a friend were at the cafeteria cash registers paying for a bowl of soup when Peter came up and introduced himself and the rest is history! They are both really fun and loving people who aren't afraid to make each other laugh and act silly together. Their wedding was a blend of eastern and western elements including a traditional Chinese band that played through the cocktail hour and Margret's dress which she had made custom to be a mixture of the traditional Chinese red and American white gowns. I also found out at the reception that Peter is quite the dancer who was in the middle of the dance circle most of the night!

They ended up having a beautiful wedding despite the weather and it was even nice enough to go out to the courtyard for some photos after the ceremony.

Julie & Chris - An Amherst Women's Club & Blue Heron Wedding

Julie and Chris are an amazing couple! Both engineers, they met at an Engineers Without Borders meeting as undergrads at UMASS Amherst. EWB is a volunteer organization that implements engineering solutions including safe water, schools, clinics and irrigation systems to communities in developing countries. So far, they have traveled to Kenya three times withEWB to work on water supply development projects and they hope to continue doing this work in the future. Pretty incredible!

Julie and Chris exchanged vows on the lawn of the historic Amherst Women's Club. Following the ceremony, refreshments were served while guests mingled and played assorted yard games like croquet and ladder toss. Later that night, the party moved to the lovely Blue Heron Restaurant in Sunderland where the Photobooth kept family and friends entertained all night long.

Having done most of the wedding planning themselves, the entire day was full of personal touches that made it truly special. Every detail was thoughtfully planned out, from the wedding invitations - over 37 unique designs in all - to the handmade centerpieces. Julie also arranged all of the beautiful bouquets, hand-painted and decorated her wedding shoes and adapted a beautiful peach dress she found and fell in love with into a one-of-a-kind wedding gown.

Meet Deedee, Bill & Family

Deedee & Bill met as teenagers but ultimately ended up going their separate ways. Now, 16 years later they have reunited and are planning their lives together! They are having a destination wedding this November but wanted photos here before they leave. It was also important to them to have their kids be a part of the shoot since the wedding is about everyone coming together as a family. We decided to meet at Lynch Park because not only is it a beautiful location but it's a great place for the kids too!

Meet Winnie Mae

Last December I got to meet little Winnie Mae for the first time. She was less than a week old and Chelle (my lovely and talented associate) had asked me to take her portraits. At the time I was pretty busy and never blogged the entire shoot. I have included one special picture which I suggest for all of you who are going to be taking multiple portraits. Find one piece of furniture, or place in your house that will remain the same for all the shoots, and photograph your baby there each time. It's a great way to see just how fast they grow! Here she is on the awesome white couch with blue fringe at less than a week old and you will find the same couch and a much bigger 8 month old Winnie at the bottom of this post.

Mandy & Matt- A Turner Hill Wedding

I met Mandy a couple of years ago when we were buying our house. She was our attorney and at our closing told me she would be contacting me very soon due to anticipated a ring from Matt. Sure enough, a few months later I got a phone call from her and she was engaged! She actually ended up choosing her date based on my availability which is always the best compliment a photographer can get :)

Mandy & Matt love their dog Lexi and it was really important to them to have her be a part of the wedding. She was present for the ceremony and formals and showed up looking beautiful and very excited that her parents were finally getting married! Mandy also chose vendors that were close to her to help with the wedding. Her friend Allison did her flowers, Matt's sister Tracy did an amazing job on the girls hair, the Maid of Honor's sister was the make-up artist and her mother in law spent a lot of time making some of the details for the reception. It was a very moving day with lots of special moments and I was honored to be asked to be a part of it.

Amanda & Nelson: A Danversport Yacht Club Wedding

Amanda & Nelson's wedding was one I will never forget. Not only because they are one of the nicest couples I have met, but because it was a wedding I almost missed.

As a photographer, this is one of the questions that I often get asked during the initial wedding consultation: "What happens if you are sick and you can't make it to the wedding?" To this, I always reply that I am part of a group of AMAZING photographers called the Boston Wedding Photographers Guild. As a group, we have an ICE list of photographers who are ready and willing to take your place in an emergency and shoot the wedding in your place. Of course, I already have an amazing second shooter Chris who I would trust to take over for me in a second, but as extra reassurance to the bride, I would provide another professional photographer from a studio comparable to mine to work with him. This was a case where I needed to use that list.

A week before the wedding I had been given orders by my doctor that I was not to shoot the wedding. When I told Amanda she was disappointed but extremely understanding. Fortunately, a few days later I was given clearance to shoot a little but I still needed to take it easy. By this point Krista, from Krista Photography had come to my rescue and offered to help. I was able to make it to the church and reception and Krista & Chris covered the rest. I can't thank them enough for all of their help and it's times like these where I am so grateful to have amazing clients like Amanda & Nelson and amazing friends like Krista & Chris. Thank you everyone for all of your help and support!!!

Here are the photos from Kim & Steve's gorgeous wedding. Kim is a pink and green girl which she incorporated in many aspects of her wedding from her flowers, to bridesmaid dresses and even to the gifts she gave them. Since Kim & Steve are both BC alum, they were married at St. Ignatus then had their reception at the Taj in Boston. It was an absolutely perfect day and I wish them both lots and lots of happiness!

As I was checking through my stats tonight I saw some traffic headed to my website from an unfamiliar link. I clicked on it and upon further investigation I discovered that I have been given a great honor by fellow photographer Roberto Farren. Out of hundreds of talented photographers in Boston my name was chosen as one of the top 10 that made the list of even more amazing photographers. I can't begin to tell you how honored I am to be in such company and to have another artist make this distinction is even more incredible!

Renee & Allen- A Black Rock Country Club Wedding

Renee & Allen's wedding was a very special day filled with so many great details, beautiful scenery and amazing talent. Renee was savvy enough to choose two of my favorite guys to work with, Jeff Brouillet from Jeff Brouillet Films and Anthony D'Elia of Revelation Productions. She also took the time to think of the little details that sometimes go forgotten. One of my personal favorites was her dress hanger. I can't tell you how many times I've gone searching for a halfway decent hanger for a shot of the dress, which often times costs thousands of dollars, because it's usually found hanging on a cheap plastic hanger. There were many other details which are soon to come.
For now, here are a few highlights from the day, including Allen singing to Renee during the reception. So sweet!

Meet Jess & Seth- A Brooksby Farm Engagement Shoot

Jess and Seth are both country bumpkins at heart so when Jess asked for a location that would be a little "country" Brooksby Farm seemed like the perfect spot! Jess & Seth met while in college when Seth attended a Halloween party at Jess' (now their) condo in 2004. He was a pledge for the Sigma Pi Fraternity and she was a sister of Phi Sigma Sigma. They later met again at a fund raiser for his Fraternity and at other events until Seth finally asked Jess to his yearly Fraternity Ball. They went out on a date the week prior to the Ball to get to know each other better and hit it off. And the rest is History :-)

They will be married this fall in Seth's home town of Pittsfield, MA.

Meet Margaret & Peter

I recently met with Margaret & Peter at the Boston Public Garden (which seems to be a popular spot lately) for their engagement session. One thing I love about my job is seeing how couples interact with each other and how they often times are such a great balance for one another. When I first met Margaret she seemed very sweet and nice but I didn't get to see the best part of her until she was with Peter. A very fun and playful side came out which you can see in the pictures. I also loved that they brought some bread with them to the park to feed the ducks. Having an activity to do is a great way to break the ice when first starting out on a shoot, which can often times be a little uncomfortable in the beginning. Margaret & Peter will be married later this summer at the Boston Public Library. I can't wait!

Meet Jennifer & John

I recently met with Jennifer & John at the Boston Public gardens for their engagement session. Like many of my couples, they chose to include their dog Owen in their engagement photos. Owen had a good time but I think was a bit over-stimulated with all of the people around the garden. It was a good thing his grandma was on had with treats and to watch him while Jen & John took some pictures alone! Jen emailed me after and said that Owen was so wiped out after the session which figures because we had such a hard time keeping him still for the shoot!!!

The Garden: Week Two

I'm super excited to report on the garden!! Today is week two and there is lots of success and a couple of mysteries. I've taken some documentary photos of the plants progress and report that I haven't seen any growth from the celery or spinach so far. I also lost one of the watermelon mounds but the other seems to be hanging in there. Additionally, only a few of the cukes have come up and I added some zucchini plants in the areas along the fence where there was room.

We also picked up our two rain barrels from the town of Danvers this week and I found a third on craigslist which we installed on our three downspouts yesterday. It rained last night and I've never been so excited about the rain! We collected quite a bit although I can't tell how much since the lids are sealed on with screws. It would be so helpful to have a clear strip along the side of the barrel so you can see where the water level is at.

Lastly, I've taken photos of most of the other varieties of plants around the house and written down the names (which I hope I got right) mainly so I could learn them a little better. There are a few that I didn't know and have labeled them below. If any of you know their names, or see that I have gotten a name wrong, please leave a comment and let me know!

RAIN BARRELS!!!

Meet Shelly & Jason

Last weekend I met Shelly & Jason at a little restaurant in Beverly called the Mandrake. They wanted to incorporate it into the shoot because it was where they had their very first date! Shelly is like me and gets nervous and uncomfortable in front of the camera which is why the first shot of them is from across the bar. I usually try to keep my distance when anyone is feeling this way, give them a little space and then ease my way closer as the shoot progresses. Since they both love the ocean we headed to Lynch Park after taking a walk downtown for some more photos. I think by the end of the shoot they were both feeling a little more relaxed and now they're all warmed up for the wedding in September!

Let the Gardening Begin: Planting day One!!

I've decided to start year two in our new house off to a great start. It began last fall when my mom and I planted lots and lots of bulbs around the yard. When we moved in there were two huge shrubs in the front and not much else in the way of color or greenery.

This spring, we dug up some of the many plants from my mothers beautiful gardens and planted them in the front. This is when I started getting the garden fever. So.... after a consultation with my husband, we decided to start a huge veggie garden in the side yard. I guess it's not that huge compared to some but it's about 10'x20' which to me is big since this will be my first veggie garden undertaking ever!

So here's some before pics of the space:

Yesterday we tilled and after a soil test, added some bone meal, blood meal, manure, peat mixture and dried up leaves from the lawn last year. Then mixed everything in.

And today I planted everything!!! From the back to the front of the picture I planted Lettuce greens, basil, spinach and broccoli rapa. Then a row of celery, two kinds of tomatoes, one called 'early girl' so I guess we'll be picking those first :) After the tomatoes there are a couple of watermelon mounds and two rows of sweet corn. I also planted cukes, yellow squash and baby pumpkins along the fence so they can grow up instead of on the ground.

Planing tomatoes on their sides will give you a bigger area for root growth and a better harvest.

After the planting I gave the garden a good soak with the hose and some fish and seaweed fertilizer followed by another evening watering.

I was warned by some to not plant so much but I'm not the kind of girl that likes to do things in moderation ;) I'm just so excited to see what grows and what doesn't so I can learn more for next year. I also can't wait for lots of tomato and pesto salads. Yum!!!!

Leah & Mike- A Willowdale Estate Wedding

Chris & I were lucky to share Leah & Mikes very special day at Willowdale Estate. It was a day filled with lots of emotions, tears that were fought back by family jokes and some very very tall shoes supplied by the mother of the bride. Leah & Mike have over a foot height difference between them and these shoes were supposed to help bridge the gap. The were so high that Leah had a front bustle put in her dress for later on when she changed into her dancing shoes! There was also a very special candle lighting ceremony after the Ketubah signing to remember those family and friends who were unable to attend the wedding, including Leah's dad. Leah also carried a small photo with her father on her bouquet. Lots of held back tears!

Meet Sarah & Justin - A Rockport Engagement Shoot

Yesterday I met Sarah and Justin in Rockport for their engagement shoot. Justin & Sarah are both transplants from the South and the Midwest and Justin really wanted to visit Moore Lobster Co.. He was on a mission to hold a lobster and as you can see by the photos, not only did he hold one, but there was such a great reaction! Luckily for the lobster, Justin & Sarah chose clams to dine on :)

After all that excitement we drove up to Halibut Point to take in some of the beautiful scenery and as we were walking around I could see some of the reasons why they are getting married. Justin has a great sense of humor and was making Sarah laugh the entire shoot. I know from experience in marriage how important it is to have a guy that makes you laugh! I'm so excited for their wedding which will be held this fall at the Commandants House in Charlestown.

Christine & Will: A Vermont Wedding

Last weekend my husband Dave and I were lucky enough to attend Christine and Will's gorgeous Vermont wedding along with my wonderful second shooter Michael Paul. Michael drove 2 hours each way to help me out and I'm so grateful for his efforts and beautiful images!

Currently New Yorkers, Christine and Will returned to Christine's home town of Rutland for their wedding. It was a great weekend filled with friends and family and they were all so warm and welcoming to Dave and I. I really feel like I got a a glimpse into their lives and we are so grateful for their warm hospitality. There were so many wonderful images from this wedding it was hard for me to narrow it down for this post but I did my best!

Meet Amanda & Nelson - Boston Engagement Photography

I'd like to introduce you to Amanda & Nelson. They met while on the gymnastics team at Springfield College. They became close friends at the beginning of the semester and started dating Christmas Break of freshman year.

Now, they are both busy professionals and the engagement shoot was a welcome time alone (well almost alone) together. They are also the proud parents of two adorable labs named Cody and Mia. Their wedding will be this August at The Danversport Yacht Club.

Engagement Photography- Meet Alyssa & Kevin

Alyssa & Kevin are getting married next month in Grafton but wanted to shoot their engagement photos on the Cape which is where Alyssa is from. This wedding is extra special because Alyssa will also become a mom to Kevin's two little girls who joined us as we went from their West Dennis house, to the Herring Runs and the finally to the very, very, very windy beach. We had a great time and I can't wait to see them again next month!

Portrait Photography: Meet Anna & Sadie

This weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Anna and her baby sister Sadie. When I arrived, Anna was having a bit of a bad day and was shall we say, less than enthusiastic about having her photo taken. So, what do you do when you are hired to shoot a portrait of someone who doesn't want to be photographed? This was a first for me, so I did what I know best. Real life. I got out my sniper lens, hid behind some bushes and followed her around while she played outside. I shot from the hip with my 17-55mm (which only worked a few times before she was on to me) and tried to get her playing with mom, running away from dad and acting like the 3 year old that she is.

Sometimes portrait sessions come with a set of pre-conceived ideas from both the parents, and the photographer, on what the final outcome will look like. I was expecting to shoot more "portraits" and less "life" on this shoot, but what I realized is that just like wedding photography, it's the real moments where dad is chasing big sis around the house while mom tries to feed the baby that can be the most memorable. These are the photos I love, and although I love a beautiful portrait with crisp eyes, milky skin and the perfect bokeh, I love catching the moments that happen in between those portraits even more.

Kaitlyn & Carl- A Willowdale Winter Wedding

Kaitlyn & Carl celebrated their marriage with a beautiful winter wedding at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield. If you've never been to a winter wedding, nobody does it better than Willowdale. This wedding was extra special for Kaitlyn & Carl because they were apart for seven months before the wedding. Carl is in the military and Kaitlyn had moved to Texas to help out a family member in need. This was their time to not only be together, but start the rest of their lives together.

Melissa and Dave met while working together at the State House. Since then they have supported each other while each attended law school. Melissa went first and Dave just finished up at Suffolk this year. When I met with them for their engagement shoot Dave had just finished the Bar and was waiting for his results. When I got to Willowdale on the big day Dave had the letter that they had both been waiting for. He passed the bar and found out that morning when Melissa went to get the mail. What a great way to celebrate to very special occasions!!

Andrea & Tim started out with a gloomy day but from the second I walked into the hotel room where the girls were getting ready I knew it was going to be a great party! Andrea chose the best details for her big day from peacock feathers and butterflies in her bouquets, to purple shoes, to the great birdcage veil that she wore. The guys didn't need any funky accessories to get them going. As you can see from one small example of how much fun they had with Chris during the prep shoot. They also had a killer band at the reception who I hope to see much more of! Valentina & Matt's Wedding - Boston Hyatt

Valentina & Matt had a wonderful wedding last weekend. When I arrived at Valentina's parent's house for the getting ready photos there didn't seem to be anything different going on, even though I knew that there would soon be mobs of women coming over for the Armenian tradition of the dressing of the bride. All of the furniture had been pushed to the sides of the living and dining rooms and the dining room table was full of food and a platter which contained chocolates and Valentina's shoes all nicely wrapped in tulle. As soon as Val came down from getting dressed the women started dancing and each got a turn to hold the shoes and dance them around the bride. It was quite moving for me since I have such a small family and I was eventually brought to tears (I'm a sap, I know) when I thought about all of these women who were taking part in such a special tradition.

There were also lots of other special moments like these throughout the day but another one of the best ones was the first dance. You can see by looking at Matt's face and all of his new family members how great it was!

Ashley & Nick's Wedding

Ashley & Nick are the perfect example of the yin and yang that a good relationship is based on. Ashley is well.. particular, which is a great balance for Nick who says she keeps him grounded. Nick is pretty laid back and they actually remind me of my husband and I but in reverse. I'm the laid back one and my husband is a little high strung and I often catch him talking to himself while frantically scrubbing the kitchen counters. I can totally imagine this scenario happening elsewhere :) They had a beautiful day at the Atkinson Country Club and we got some of my favorite shots from this year!

Meet Leah & Mike

Last week I met Leah & Mike in Cambridge for their engagement shoot. They both live there and love to frequent the local farmers markets and cook frequently together and for friends on the weekends. Leah thought it would be a great idea to take some photos at the market but also wanted some photos at the public garden. I always encourage my couples to think about what they love to do together or their favorite places when choosing a location for their engagement shoot. It makes it more meaningful and it's also puts them at ease to be in a familiar place when having their picture taken by someone they don't know very well yet. (moi :) We got some great photos and Leah got some great veggies and pumpkin blossoms at the farmers market for dinner that night. She even sent me the instructions for making pumpkin blossoms and a picture of the finished product the next day. Awwww!!!!

Meet Melissa & Dave

Melissa & Dave met while they were both working in the State House so it was fitting that we met downtown for their engagement shoot. They also wanted to bring along their pups which I always encourage my couples to do especially when they want them to be a part of the wedding somehow. It's usually pretty hard to coordinate the dogs into the ceremony but they can always be included in the engagement shoots and also by bringing "family photos" to display at the reception. It's a good idea to either ask a friend to take the dogs part way through the shoot (which they did) or have a safe place for them to wait in case you want some photos with just the two of you. These guys were pretty cute and had lots of fun sniffing around and chasing squires on the common!

I have to say I had such a blast on Steph & Steve's e-shoot! I met them in Worcester and got a really great tour from Stephanie who knows a lot of great trivia about the city, and the best part was I go to do it while sitting in the back of Steve's '68 MINT Cutlass. I have always wanted to be a race car driver, and will now admit (sorry mom), that I burned the clutch out of my mom's Accord when I first got my license and continue to hear from my husband that I drive too fast on the highway. So, this being my first time in a car like this, I got to feeling like I have to get me one of these :)

I'm not sure if it will happen or not, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Cutlass will make an appearance at the wedding.

Ada & Ray's Wedding

Last weekend Chris and I had the pleasure of shooting Ada & Ray's wedding. Ada & Ray are both very spiritual people and the majority of their wedding took place at their church in Newton. They also had a nice blend of eastern and western customs. My favorite was where Ray had to answer a series of questions and perform a few crazy acts in order to see Ada for the first time at their hotel where she was getting ready. After the church reception they took some time for photos downtown which was followed by a small dinner at Mistral with close friends and family.

Mandy & Eddie's Wedding

Last weekend Mandy & Eddie tied the knot and celebrated at the beautiful Exchange Conference Center in Boston. Mandy is a pretty incredible bride. Not only does she have major brains and beauty, but she is also very thoughtful and caring. She decided to donate her dress, which was already restored, to Brides Against Breast Cancer.

BABC is a foundation who's mission is “To provide an opportunity for metastatic breast cancer patients’ dream or wish to be fulfilled by providing a special time of 'Making Memories' together with their families, a chance that might not have become a reality without the assistance of the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation.

We at Making Memories are dedicated to providing a spark of joy into the lives of women and men who are losing their battle against breast cancer. The tragedy of this illness is not merely the physical and emotional burden, but also the enormous financial strain it places on a family. When insurance benefits are exhausted and mounting medical expenses deplete bank accounts, there is often little or no money left for special memory-making moments, set apart from the everyday sadness and turmoil of “saying goodbye.”

Meet Conrad & Jackie

Last night I met Conrad and Jackie at Lynch Park in Beverly. Conrad wanted something formal mixed with urban and the beach so what better place than Beverly!Conrad and Jackie met in their home country of Tanzania when they were teenagers while Conrad was visiting his uncle. He didn't visit very often until he met Jackie and then the trips became more and more frequent :) Conrad later moved to the states for school without Jackie but fate had a plan and they were later reunited in Georgia and have been together ever since!

Ryan and Rick took a break from their busy New York lives and tied the knot in beautiful Newport, RI this past weekend. Rick made it extra special for Ryan by keeping their wedding night location a secret. I had to send Chris on a top secret mission to the Inn where he was getting ready and where they would be staying that night. He also took the time to write her a love letter which he sent to her right before the ceremony started.

It was a gorgeous day and while we were walking down the pier right after the ceremony we were lucky enough to be invited on to a beautiful private sailboat to take pictures!

Sara & Ric's Wedding

Sara and Rick's love to spend time together outdoors hiking and biking and like their relationship, they wanted to keep their wedding real. They were married at the Barn at Gibbet Hill which uses a farm to fork philosophy it's beautiful fields help to preserve the land. Sara's aunt, who decorates wedding cakes professionally, designed their very unique succulent cake and one of Sara's best friends from high school, a professional opera singer, sang "At Last" by Etta James as she walked down the aisle. Her mom carefully hand wrapped and wired all of the succulents for the flower arrangements and bouquets. On one of Sara and Ric's first dates, Ric gave Sara a bouquet made of Garlic and Lavender and and the place cards were attached to cloves of garlic and sprigs of lavender grown from his garden. Sara's wedding band was made from diamonds and rubies from ring that had belonged to her grandmother and Ric's bamboo designed band has an inscription on the inside that says "This ring planted eight bamboo trees".

It was the perfect day for their "real wedding" and I was accompanied by Lukas Kisiel who owns and runs Lukas Kisiel Photography in Boston. It was great working with him and I think we got some of my favorite shots from this season together.

Meet Maryjane & Michea'l

I met Maryjane & Michea'l on Monday at Marina Bay for their engagement shoot. It was my first time meeting Michea'l in person and he seemed a little reserved about the whole thing so I had them sit down and I asked them to tell me the story of how they met. This will usually evoke a smile or a laugh pretty quickly and as soon as the laughter starts, I start shooting. Sometimes from the hip if I have to just to keep the mood.

Maryjane & Michea'l met in a bar about two and a half years ago. They apparently remember the story differently but in Maryjane's story, she was there with a friend and saw Michea'l waving to her from across the bar. I think in his version, she was waving at him :) At the time, Maryjane and her friend were the only women in the bar and this is why you see Michea'l holding up two fingers on one of the pictures. You can also tell I was shooting from my hip there because he's looking up at me and not the camera. From the wave, came a date and regardless of who waved first, they ended up in love and that's what's important!

Dee & Donald's Wedding

Dee & Donald met at met at Chowan University, which is a very small school located in Murfreesboro, NC. They became friends and a year later started dating. Although they have lived in North Carolina for many years, Dee is from Mass and Donald has family from many different parts of the country so they decided to have the wedding here.

They tied the knot at the Highfields Country Club in Grafton. It was a great day which included their 5 year old son Dante' who, like my son, became part of the family before the wedding. There is a great shot of the three of them at the reception. Dante' was sitting on dads lap during the toasts and while the best man was giving his speech, Dee leaned over to Dante', put her hand on his and whispered "I love you". It was the best shot of the day.

Amy & Nelson's Wedding

I met Amy in the fall of 2008 when I was photographing her friends Amy & Chris's wedding at St. Anselm college in New Hampshire. I had put up a slideshow during the reception on my laptop with a few edited highlights from the day. Shortly after she came running up to me and told me she wanted me to be her photographer. I of course said yes and asked her when the wedding was. She then told me she wasn't engaged yet, but as soon as she was she wanted me to be her photographer!

So, sure enough as soon as Nelson proposed and a date was set I got an email from Amy. Thankfully I had the date open and the rest is what you see here! I shot one of my all time favorite images at their wedding. It's the one where she is walking up the stairs to the Capital Building in downtown Providence. I just think it's super dramatic and romantic :)

Meet Aisling & Jon

Ash and Jon are high school sweethearts who are planning a Halloween wedding this fall. Ash is a fellow photographer and it's always such an honor to have another photographer select you to document on of the most important days in their lives. More impressively she is also a hockey player and her and Jon participate regularly in a local rec-league. We met at Lynch Park in Beverly for their engagement shoot and they told me that it's one of their favorite places to people watch. I've shot a few times at the park but Ash told me a great story about the history of the beautiful Rose Garden.

The current Rose Garden used to hold the summer White House of President Taft which was owned by the Evans family. Apparently Mrs. Evans didn't care for Taft and was so annoyed with the President and all of the commotion that he caused that after two years of renting to him, she informed him that his summer home would no longer be available, as she was planning to construct an Italian Rose Garden in its place. The cottage was moved by barge in two separate pieces to Peache's Point in Marblehead, where it can still be seen today. What an awesome story!

Meet Kaitlyn & Carl

Last week I met Kaitlyn & Carl for the very first time after months of communication via phone and email. They were in town for some wedding planning and it was the perfect time to schedule their engagement shoot.

There were a few things that made this shoot particularly cool and unique. The first was the location! How can you beet the The New England Aquarium as a backdrop? Although it was pretty packed, we still managed to get some great shots both inside and out. The second was that they brought their mothers along with them which I have to say is a first :) I was a little worried in the beginning but Kaitlyn & Carl have some pretty cool moms and we all ended up having lots of fun. This brings me to third unique aspect, the fountain... After the aquarium, we walked across the street to the Greenway and I thought it would be cool to use the fountain as a backdrop. We were only about half way into the shoot when they spontaneously ran through the water and got totally soaked!

After the fountain incident, we still had more pictures to take but no change of clothes. So although the ending photos may not be as pretty as the beginning, it shows how much fun they had and that is what I love to see!

I met Kerry & Paul last year after a semi-frantic phone call from Kerry asking if I would shoot their engagement photos. Her mother was having a party for them and she needed some pictures asap. We met at the Salem Willows along with their Beagle Dustin. I guess they must have liked the images because they ended up booking me for their wedding :)

I love all of the details from this wedding. Even her mother's house matches the blues and yellows found throughout the day. Paul's aunt made their beautiful cake which went perfectly with the seaside theme and the breathtaking location at the Popponesset Inn.

Amy & Jim traveled around the world for their wedding. They both live in Australia but decided to get married here since Amy is originally from Massachusetts. Meet Ada & Ray

Last week I met up with Ada and Ray in Rockport for their engagement shoot. Not only is Rockport a beautiful location it is the spot where they had their first date. The first photo in front of the big lobster sign, is where they had their first dinner together, and that's not counting the one at the wedding where they met.

It's funny because you find out a lot about your couples from engagement shoots. At first glance, Ray & Ada seemed very quiet and reserved, which to some extent they are. They both have a calm way about them. But as they were interacting with each other I noticed that Ada was poking Ray's nose a lot and making strange noises at him and she is really quite silly! This is why I love engagement shoots and include them with my weddings. You never know what you're going to find out!

Chelsea & Dennis had a very special wedding last weekend. It was special not only because they were getting married, but because they were able to share it with their son Dion. Dion is just about the cutest baby I have ever seen and he wasn't the only little one in the wedding. You can see from the pictures there were four children in the bridal party under the age of three! Chelsea is the third of three girls to get married and both of her sisters brought their little ones to the wedding. It's hard to stay focused when there are so many cute faces everywhere!

Kelly & Drew's Wedding

Usually I would start this post by saying "last Saturday Kelly and Andrew got married at . . . " but I have been a little busier than usual lately with some unexpected personal dramas and have fallen over a week behind on my blogging. I know that might not seem like a lot, but for me it is. I like my clients to be able to look at their highlight photos on their iphone's while sitting at the airport waiting to go on their honeymoon. I love having the ability to give them that little gift that means so much!

So I know Kelly and Drew have already left for the honeymoon and I'm hoping that these will be waiting for them when they return. Kelly had the best of luck on her wedding day because it rained, and rained and rained. She still made the best of it and even though she said she didn't want to take any photos outside in the rain, I got a great one of her being led into the reception by the venue coordinator at Lake Pearl. I might be crazy, but it looks to me like she's having fun out there under that umbrella!
